JD CYMRU NORTH side Bangor City have unveiled defender Ryan Evans as their latest signing.

The 19-year-old centre back has been a key player for Llanfairpwll in the Anglesey League over the last two seasons.

He had been playing, and impressing, for Bangor City’s under 19’s side but has now made the step up to the first team.

City manager Hugo Colace praised Evans after promoting him saying: “Ryan is a young player with great potential and talent. Most importantly, he has the ability to listen and learn, and can be formed into a great Bangor City defender.”

A towering defender, Evans has really stood out at tier five level under the guidance of Llanfairpwll managers Vinny Walker and Spud Thomas and also captained the club on a number of occasions despite being so young.

He was selected in AFEFootballNews’ fan vote Anglesey League Team of the Season in 2018/19, after he had put in some brilliant performances for Llanfair at just 17 years old.

It’s his maturity and his willingness to learn, as well as his defensive qualities which will see him make the leap from tier five to tier two with City once football returns.

Speaking upon signing for the first team, Evans himself added: “It feels great to sign for Bangor! It’s a surreal feeling stepping up from tier 5 into tier 2, being a part of the club has grown my confidence on and off the pitch. I am very grateful for the support I’ve received from all the players and coaches, and this is an opportunity I hope to thrive in!”

Evans becomes the latest local player to be signed to the first team by Bangor City as it looks to re-connect the community to the club following a controversial few years.

Manager Colace is keen to bridge the gap between locals and the club once more, bringing in players such as Alex Boss back to the club and introducing top talents such as Shane Owen, a young goalkeeper who played for Ogwen Tigers last season, to the first team also.
