LLANGOED picked up their 4th win of the inaugural North Wales Coast West Division One season in dramatic fashion on Tuesday evening.
David Thomas’ side travelled to Mynydd Llandegai to play Bethesda Rovers, who are bottom of the tier 5 table but had beaten Llangoed 3-2 in the previous meeting between the two sides.
But it was to be the away side who added another 3 points to their season tally this time around with a slender 1-0 win which was hard fought for.
In a close contest, Rovers top scorer Reece Williams had the chance to put them 1-0 up from the penalty spot on 18 mins but saw his wffort saved by Llangoed goalkeeper and eventual Man of the Match Rhys Owen.
It was then the turn of Llangoed top scorer Anthony Williams to for the Puffins in front as he netted from close range on 22 mins. That was the forward’s 14th goal of the season but his first since netting in a 4-1 defeat to Llanerchymedd back in October (although he did score in a 2-1 loss for Llangoed Reserves at Pwllheli Reserves last week).
Rovers’ day got worse when Iestyn Marlow was rather harshly given a second yellow card just before half time and dismissed from the field.
In the second half, Owen – who has been a huge part of Llangoed’s success as a club in the past – continued his heroics in goal as he saved another penalty to earn a well-deserved clean sheet and a big 3 points for his club.
That takes Llangoed up to 15pts for the season, keeping them in 14th in the table. Rovers meanwhile remain bottom with 7pts but are showing massive signs of improvement, having narrowly lost their last 2 matches by a scoreline of 1-0.
