BETHESDA ATHLETIC’S chances of winning the inaugural North Wales Coast West Division One title have been boosted by some excellent signing news tonight.
The tier 5 league-leaders have announced the signing of Dean Redmond from West Premier club Menai Tigers.
Over the past few seasons, ‘Curls’ has become a household name within the local game for his lethal form in front of goal.
The former Beaumaris Town forward’s best spell for the Tigers came back in 2017/18 when he fired in 39 goals as the club won a Gwynedd League and cup double.
And that form continued in 2018/19 for Redmond as he scored 17 goals in all competitions for Welsh Alliance One outfit Bodedern Athletic.
He then returned to the Tigers in the midst of the pandemic ahead of the first-ever North Wales Coast West Premier campaign in 21/22.
During this season so far, the 33-year-old has hit 18 goals in just 22 matches for the Tigers. His last two goals came in a 4-3 win over Aberffraw on March 4.
That match was a fitting tribute to Redmond’s former manager Sean Brett who sadly died in an accident on the A55 in Flintshire some days before the game was played.
Now though, he arrives at tier 5 title-chasers Bethesda Athletic who have already smashed in a crazy 115 goals in just 25 league matches – no other team has passed the 100 mark yet.
Manager Mark Hughes is building a formidable young side which includes his sons Daniel, Osian and Noa who have scored 32 goals between them already this season.
Athletic’s team also features a few experienced heads to balance the side out and help guide the young stars forward, such as the likes of Mike Lundstram, David Clarke and Scott Hughes.
Redmond arrives at the club as another highly-experienced player and of course will pretty much guarantee plenty of goals, adding to an already deadly attack.
A powerful forward, I’m sure he’ll have a say in where Athletic, currently 3 points clear at the top, end up come the end of the season.

Upon signing Redmond, Athletic manager Mark Hughes said: “We’ve brought Dean in to give us a boost ahead of the run in. His goals record over the past few years in higher leagues speaks for itself, and his energy and enthusiasm for the game will also be a huge asset in the remaining games.
“He’s a competitor and a fighter and it’s that spirit which will be needed in the coming weeks with everything still to play for.”
