BODEDERN ATHLETIC have added one of the most promising young talents on Anglesey to their ranks this evening.
Manager Ricky Williams has signed midfielder Sam Gregson ahead of the club’s 21/22 campaign in North Wales Coast West Premier.
Gregson made his debut in the senior game for Llangoed in the Gwynedd League in 2019/20, just days after turning 16 years old.
Despite being so young, he showed maturity beyond his years already and really stood out in the midfield as Llangoed finished eighth in the table under Mark Thomas.
He went onto enjoy a simply stunning debut season in the men’s game as he hit nine goals and showed great vision to set team mates up also.
Gregson, who is also a Caernarfon Town academy player, scored his last goal for Llangoed today in a 2-2 friendly draw against Mynydd Llandegai. It was a wonderful volleyed finish into the bottom corner to rescue a late point for Llangoed.
His younger brother Harry is now coming through the ranks at Tyddyn Paun and playing in friendlies for the men’s team.
Speaking on signing Sam, Bodedern Athletic manager Ricky Williams said: “Sam is someone I’d heard a lot about the last 18 months and we found out ourselves how good he was when we entertained llangoed at the start of pre-season.
“He’s only 17 but he plays like a player that’s way beyond his years. A centre midfielder that has it all, quick, athletic, can put his foot in and can pick a pass, his best attribute is probably his breaking into the box and scoring as we’ve seen in pre season. Sam is a welcome addition to a very strong squad.”
Gregson’s signing follows a number of other top additions for Boded in recent weeks including goal scoring machine Asa Thomas and another very promising young player, Casey Gregg.
Many clubs had been chasing his signature and that just goes to show how much quality he possesses. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do at tier four level.
