‘My Dream XI’ – Amlwch Town manager Chris Byast picks his team!

TONIGHT it’s the turn of a man who’s recently been appointed manager of his club to choose his dream XI.

A former player of Amlwch Town, Chris Byast took on the role of interim manager in August 2020, before being appointed permanently to the role last month.

As a player, Chris also starred for the likes of Llanerchymedd, Bro Goronwy and Amlwch’s bitter rivals Cemaes Bay – who he spent the start of the 2019/20 campaign with, scoring three goals before departing for Amlwch once more.

Chris, whose brother Martin also plays football for Llandudno Amateurs, has enjoyed a great start to life as Town manager, with his club enjoying some great wins before the most recent lockdown was imposed. That included an impressive 5-2 win at fellow tier four club Trearddur Bay Bulls.

Here, he has out his perfect side together and it’s a great one!

Chris says: “A great shot stopper and always good at talking to his team from the back. Even if nobody could unsderstand his accent!”

Off the field, McKean was actually Amlwch Town manager for a number of seasons before departing the role last year.

RIGHT BACK – Dylan “Valley” Owen

Chris says: “I played with him and against him and onething you know when you come up against him is he will be aggressive in every 50/50.”

CENTRE BACK – Geth Roberts

Chris says: “I played with Geth for many years and he’s a top class player. Good at winning his aerial duels and also very good with his feet.”

Chris says: “This man is an absolute beast and has been for many years. He’s played at the very top of the Welsh pyramid and has been a force at the back for Amlwch for years.”

LEFT BACK – Wayne ‘Bach’ Rowlands

Chris says: “A great player and helped me a lot when I was younger. Heart on his sleeve type of player that would never shy away from a tackle.”

Wayne, who was a much-loved and respected player and coach for both Bodedern and Amlwch, is sadly no longer with us, having passed away in 2014 aged just 27 following a road accident.

CENTRE MID – Adrian Jones

Chris says: “Top quality player with lot of heart and an engine to go with it. His best days where before I got the chance to play with him but even later on in his career he was force in central midfield.”

CENTRE MID – Dewi Thomas

Chris says: “No write up needed for Dewi. He’s a young lad who’s already played at top clubs. There’s isn’t much he can’t do with a ball at his feet.”

CENTRE MID – Ryan Folksman

Chris says: “I’ve played with and against Ryan for Amlwch and Cemaes. He’s a brilliant footballer who likes to play the game the right way and his passing is up there with the best I’ve seen.

LEFT WING – Luke McGivern

Chris says: “I think anyone who has played against Luke knows what a handful he is. Played for Amlwch for years and had a short spell at Holyhead Hotspur before returning.

STRIKER – Matthew Jones

Chris says: “I played with Matthew at Llanerchymedd for a couple of seasons. I believe he is the best finisher about. He rarely misses a chance when he’s given the opportunity.

RIGHT WING – Andy Williams

PIC: Paul Scholes

Chris says: “A true veteran in local football who is still playing. I watched him when I was growing up playing for Amlwch and back then he was unstoppable. Some would probably still say that now.”
