HAVERFORDWEST COUNTY pulled off the shock of the weekend in the JD Cymru Premier as they beat The New Saints 2-1.

Wayne Jones’ Bluebirds put in a fantastic performance as they grabbed themselves a huge three points and secured a famous victory for the club.

The home side were 1-0 up at the break thanks to a Corey Shephard’s goal (below) in the 17th minute. The Saints levelled early on in the second 45 through defender but Blaine Hudson but Cameron Keetch’s goal with around 15 minutes to go sealed the win.

TNS, who let manager Scott Ruscoe go last week, tasted defeat for just the second time this season (the other being a 2-0 defeat to Connah’s Quay).

That result sees Haverfordwest move up to sixth in the table and also sees 2019/20 champions Connah’s Quay Nomads stay three points clear at the top of the table – despite dropping points in their 0-0 draw with Penybont earlier today.

Bala closed the gap on TNS to six points (with a game in hand) as they came from behind to beat Cefn Druids at The Rock.

The hosts started brightly and were ahead after just 6 minutes of play when former Lakesider Stefan Edwards rifled the ball into the bottom right hand corner. With half an hour played, Bala were back level as a delivery on the left arrived to Chris Venables who superbly struck it on the volley only for the Druids keeper to palm it back into the path of Ollie Shannon who fired in the rebound.

It only took four minutes of the second half before Bala took the lead. A shot by Venables was blocked before Shannon picked up the loose ball to score again. The game was done and dusted when Venables converted a penalty on 68mins before Steven Leslie was sent off for Bala late on following an altercation.

A big moment in the match was when midfielder Danny Gosset made his official return to the pitch for Bala Town nearly two years after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Great to see!

Elsewhere Barry Town United bounced back from their mid-week defeat to Penybont to grab a late winner against in-form Aberystwyth Town; their goal coming courtesy of Nat Jarvis.

Newtown impressed once more as they hammered Cardiff Met Uni 4-1 thanks to two goals in each half. Tyrone Ofori put the home side ahead just six minutes in before Bradley Woodbridge equalised for the Archers.

Ofori fired Newtown back in front at half time before a Jordan Evans double – including a stunning free-kick – completed the scoreline.

Caernarfon Town picked up three points also with a 2-0 win away at Flint Town United. Goals from Paulo Mendes and Sion Bradley three minutes apart in the second half helped keep Huw Griffiths’ side in the running for a top six finish.
