THE star of the show for Llanrhaeadr-Ym-Mochnant as the club enjoyed a fine campaign in the JD Cymru North.
Mark Griffiths’ side finished in seventh in what was a very tough tier two last season as the season came to an abrupt end due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Matthews was as a real standout for the club as he notched up 10 in just 20 appearances for his home village club last season as they recorded what was their highest-ever finish in the Welsh pyramid system.
The 25-year-old, a product of the Llanrhaeadr academy, first played for the senior side in 2013/14 having hit 16 goals for the Reserves side the season before that.
A move to Llansantffraid followed before he returned to Llanrhaeadr to play at tier two level once more. He then moved to Guilsfield in 2017/18 but again returned to his home club where he continued to impress.
Over the years, Matthews has proved to be one of mid-Wales’ most talented forwards and another fine campaign in 2019/20 has seen him earn a second spell with a very promising Guilsfield side who finished third in the JD Cymru North last season after singing for the club in July 2020.
