AFE’s Stars of the 2019/20 season: Gari Owen (Llangefni Town)

AN INCREDIBLY energetic defender who has been a superb servant for Llangefni over the last few seasons.

2019/20 was no different for full-back Owen as he once again stood out for the club as they narrowly avoided the drop from the JD Cymru North.

Llangefni finished 13th in the table which was decided on a Points Per Game system as the season came to an abrupt end due to the Coronavirus pandemic. They finished on 21pts – just 3pts clear of Porthmadog who were relegated to tier three along with Corwen and Llanfair United.

The ever-reliable Owen, who won Gold with the Ynys Môn men’s side in the 2019 Island Games tournament on home soil, was again an influential member of the squad last season.

He put in a number of brilliant performances for Town and, following his club’s 2-0 win over Llandudno in October 2019, he was included in the JD Cymru North Team of the Week.

A player who manager Chris Roberts rates very highly, having also played under him at Glantraeth, Owen is one of the hardest-working players in the game in North Wales and is much-loved by Llangefni supporters due to his efforts on behalf of the club also.
