EXPERIENCED forward who joined Anglesey League runners-up Rangers having been a big player at Nantlle Vale.
I’m sure that had the season continued to its conclusion, rather than ending so abruptly in March 2020, Hughes would have easily smashed double figures in tier five.
The former Llanrug United, Talysarn Celts and Llanllyfni player, known as ‘Gibbo’, began the 2019/20 campaign with Welsh Alliance One side Vale who finished eighth.
The 32-year-old returned to Maes Dulyn in the summer of 2019, having previously been part of the side in 2008/09 – when he netted a last minute winner in the Presidents Cup final v Barmouth & District. He also later re-joined the club in 2011/12, and spent a further three seasons there, scoring more than 60 goals.
Hughes hit six goals for Vale before departing for the then-Anglesey League title-chasers Mountain Rangers in January 2020. Upon reuniting with former Vale team-mates Simon Kay, Irfon Hughes and Declyn Williams, he noted four more goals before the season ended.
A talented forward who is considered something of a legend for his exploits at Nantlle Vale over the years.
