IT’S not always easy for a player to break through into a senior side’s starting eleven in his very first season in senior football but that’s exactly what Owain Davies did – and he made it look effortless.
The 16-year-old full-back was a joy to watch in the Llanfair team led by Vinny Walker and Spud Thomas and really established himself as a player they just couldn’t afford to drop from that starting line-up.
Davies, whose elder brother Sion Emlyn also played for Pwll before joining Llangefni Town Reserves last season, was undoubtedly one of the best young players in the Anglesey League in 2019/20 and deserved his place in my AL Team of the Season.
Not only was he a brilliant defender, but he was also great on the counter-attack too, popping up with five goals for his club along the way. A string of fine performances for Llanfair saw him become a favourite amongst fellow players and I for one can’t wait to see him play football once more when clubs can finally take to the pitch again post-Covid.
