OVER the past five years or so, Llangoed (also previously known as Llangoed & District) Football Club has come a long, long way. And Wayne Thomas has been a big part of that.
This season, the highly-reliable forward once again finished as the club’s top scorer with a tally of 21 goals. Along the way, he hit a personal milestone in his footballing career as he passed the 150 goal mark.
Having been at Tyddyn Paun since 2012/13 (alongside a brief stint at Menai Tigers in 2015/16, where he scored two goals), Thomas has racked up a total of 151 goals for Llangoed.
During his time with the club, he’s won several honours, including the Dargie and Elias Cups and the Car Boot Trophy, as well as earning promotion to the Gwynedd league under managers Vinny Walker and Spud Thomas in 2016/17.
On a personal level, Thomas has become a real favourite at Llangoed, winning several individual accolades. The end of the 2018/19 campaign was a particular highlight for him I’m sure as he won awards for: Managers Player of the Season, Players Player of the Season, Most Assists and Most Man of the Matches (below) following a campaign to remember.
I’m sure the end of season do for 2019/20 (whenever that will be) will bring similar success for Llangoed’s star man.
Thomas’ full goals record for his career is as follows:
2012/13 – 26 goals
2013/14 – 21 goals
2014/15 – 24 goals
2015/16 – 5 (+2 for Menai Tigers)
2016/17 – 25 goals
2017/18 – 19 goals
2018/19 – 10 goals
2019/20 – 21 goals
He really is a criminally underrated player in my opinion who deserves a lot more praise for what he’s done over the years. Hard-working and with a great eye for goal, there’s a reason I put Thomas in my Gwynedd League Team of the Season for 2019/20!
