Quality, quality player. Cemaes captain Downey has received high praises from pretty much every club in the division this season for his stunning performances in the middle of the park.

He’s a hard-working central midfielder who has popped up with eleven goals so far for the table-toppers and for me he’s been the best player in the league as he does so much in games.

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE HALF SEASON (Under 20)

Shortlist:

Cameron Eaton (Hotspur Reserves)
Mitch Jones (Hotspur Reserves)
Casey Gregg (Hotspur Reserves)
Phil Jones (Hotspur Reserves)
Owain Davies (Llanfairpwll)
Tom Zalot (Llanfairpwll)
Callum Jones (Llanfairpwll)
Adam Thomas (Llanfairpwll)
Sol Williams (Cemaes Bay)
Daniel Jones (Cemaes Bay)

PICTURE: Chris Willz

Winner: Phil Jones

Hard one to choose, but that’s my pick. Jones has burst onto the scene under manager Tom Scott’s guidance this season and he’s been incredible for the most part and has been ever-present in the side too.

An energetic full back, the 16-year-old never stops working hard for The Reserves and has also popped up with five goals in all competitions so far. He’s certainly one to keep an eye on!

UNSUNG HERO

Nominees (one from each team):

Dion Williams (Arriva Bangor)
Connor Rees (Bodorgan)
Phil Davies (Cefni)
Sam Carter (Cemaes Bay)
Mike Edwards (Holyhead Hotspur Reserves)
Chris Owens (Holyhead Town Reserves)
Gethin Griffith (Llandegfan)
Elliott Jones (Llanfairpwll)
Terry Watkinson (Mountain Rangers)
Lewis Owen (Pentraeth Reserves)
Tudur Williams (Valley)

Winner: Terry Watkinson

PICTURE: Mountain Rangers FC

Very tough one this but I think the player who’s had the most impact for his club, without necessarily getting the recognition he deserves since arriving in the summer, has to be Watkinson (or Wax for short).

The experienced midfielder, who can play both in the middle and out wide was handful when playing for both Llanfairpwll and Arriva Bangor last season. This year, he’s returned to his Caernarfon-area roots and has been a key player for Rangers – scoring four and being quietly brilliant throughout.

TOP SCORER (League only)

PICTURE: Cemaes Bay FC

Steven Whittaker

‘Tyco’ is leading the race in the Anglesey League itself with 21 goals in the division – four ahead of Mountain Rangers’ Sam Williams who has 17.

Having stepped down from playing Welsh Alliance One football with Bodedern Athletic in the summer, Whittaker has looked a class above and has been banging the goals in left, right and centre for the league leaders.

TOP SCORER (All competitions)

PICTURE: Darren Jones

Scott Hughes

31 goals so far for Arriva’s talisman. In the last two seasons, the pacey forward has hit 60 (2018/19) and 46 (2017/18) goals respectively and it looks as though he could go on to pass that tally this season.

On his day, he’s undoubtedly the best forward to watch in the league as his movement both and on off the ball coupled with his fine finishing are up there with the best around.

EVERY OTHER TEAMS TOP SCORERS (All competitions):

Bodorgan – Luke Allaway (12 goals)
Cefni – Mark Thomas (5 goals) – has now left the club to manage Llangoed in Gwynedd League
Hotspur Reserves – Craig Moore, Casey Gregg and Curt Williams (8 goals)
Town Reserves – Luke Miles (5 goals) – has now left to join Valley
Llandegfan – Paul Jones (5 goals)
Llanfairpwll – Tom Zalot and Elliott Jones (8 goals)
Mountain Rangers – Sam Williams (21 goals)
Pentraeth Reserves – Lewis Owen (5 goals)
Valley – Casey Boylan (11 goals) – has now left to re-join Bodedern Athletic
