Can I have my Arsenal back now please?

‘Crisis’ at Arsenal?

It’s nothing new, we Gooners face it season upon season now and as much as I have admired Arsene Wenger and his incredible work over the years, even I have to admit that if this season doesn’t produce anything miraculous then I’m afraid that it is time for the old man to go.

A pre-season full of false promises of signing a major player or two beckons once again and the fans are being split into two groups once more. The Wenger outs are becoming ever more frustrated by the managers unwillingness to spend and the Wenger ins are starting to turn against their man too.

It seems that the press believe that Wenger is becoming more and more senile everyday as he angers more and more fans each time he opens his mouth, the man simply cannot win abybody over anymore. But we all know that our anger shouldn’t really be aimed towards him, but towards the American coward who hides behind the scenes. Stan Kroenke should be nowhere near our football club.

I have no doubts that Wenger would love to bring in a centre back and a world class striker during this window, after all how on earth are we supposed to compete with the likes of Manchester City and United if we don’t do so? But I also have no doubt that Kroenke is restricting our transfer activity.

We have the money there’s no keeping that a secret but unless Kroenke leaves then I fear we are in for some very dark times indeed. Certain club owners are well and truly ruining football in my opinion.

Me with Wenger (sort of!)

I have tried my best to not fall out of love with Wenger over the past few seasons, I have bought the shirts, sat through some very painful 90 minutes on weekends and even watched some of my favourite players depart. This season though will definitely be the hardest one in a very long time to stay positive throughout for.

My brutally honest opinion on our current players is this:

Cech – quality signing, always been happy with his performances.

Bellerin – exciting prospect, who has the potential to be the best right back in the world.

Mertesacker – absolute joke that he’s been given the captaincy, unreliable, slower than a crippled tortoise and quite how he has over 100 caps for Germany is anyone’s guess. He has experience of course but I just can’t seem to like the guy.

Gabriel – decent on his day, but prone to making stupid mistakes.

Chambers – better at right back than in the centre, but has potential in my opinion.

Koscielny – best centre back in the Prem on his day.

Holding – impressed me so far, particularly against leicester, but shouldn’t be first choice just yet.

Gibbs – decent cover for Monreal and one of our longest serving players.

Monreal – fast becoming one of our most reliable players, very consistent.

Coquelin – I liked him at first but he has become an absolute liability who can’t even go a game without being booked.

Xhaka – not seen enough of him yet and from what I’ve seen I’ve not been overly impressed by him.

Elneny – should get more of a chance, brilliant passer of the ball which suits our style of play.

Wilshere – if he wasn’t injury prone, he could be world class plain and simple. But he will never be injury free so get rid of him.

Cazorla – gutted he got injured for so long last season as he could’ve been a game changer for us and made us genuine title contenders.

Ramsey – brilliant for Wales but never been as good for Arsenal. Injury prone too as he’s already out for three weeks.

Iwobi – high hopes for him for the future, bright young talent.

Oxlade-Chamberlain – if this isn’t his season, then it never will be. Was great in pre season so hopefully he can continue that.

Ozil – one of the best in the world, but sometimes even he can be a little lazy.

Sanchez – playing him up front is ridiculous as he is so much better as a winger, world class on his day in fact, there’s no doubting his ability.

Giroud – people will forever slag him off but there’s no doubting what he can do. Always gives his all for the club and for that I respect him.

Walcott – lacks a football brain and enough is enough of him now, GET RID! Pains me to see him as our number 14.

Akpom – hope he gets his chance this season as he was good in pre season.

the 2016/17 squad in full

I look at the old Arsenal of the past and see Tony Adams and Patrick Vieira and I return to the future and see no leaders in our team (except Koscielny but Wenger won’t give him the chance). This is perhaps the most worrying aspect within the current Arsenal set-up, you simply CANNOT win a title without a genuine captain.

In truth, there are many things to worry about this season and I hope that if things don’t change then we will see Wenger leave because I believe that’s the only way forward now.

In the end whatever happens, if players come and go and the board try to ruin us then so be it but I’ll always be an Arsenal fan, as glory is temporary but love is permanent. Victoria Concordia Crescit, it means victory through harmony and right now staying harmonic seems like the only sane thing to do.

Arsenal till i die.
